Ultimamente i contest, soprattutto su DPChallenge, sono una grandissima fonte di ispirazione e guidano le idee per i miei scatti. Sono estremamente orgoglioso di questa perché mi è costata tanta fatica, ma ne sono estremamente soddisfatto. Nel contest specifico è arrivata seconda:

One whole day my score stayed far over 8 and reached 8.25... it's been really exciting. In any case it's never been under 7.77. I completed my ribbon set 
Even though I hoped to win with such a score I'm happy with my PB and for having created my best image ever.
First of all I wanna tell you how this idea came to my mind: I've been thinking of this challenge for three weeks but I had no ideas at all. Then on Wednesday - 9 days before the end, I had a sparkle. Literature has always been an inspiration for me and one of my favourite books is Dostoevskij's Crime and Punishment. What I love of that book is the very thin line between good and evil, a sort of shade of grey much more similar to real life. After that I thought of The Picture of Dorian Gray and Doctor Jekill & Mr.Hyde, different aspects of similar concepts.
I explained the idea to my model, Mary, she's the singer of my band, Absently, and she loved it. Unfortunately we didn't have the chance to shoot on Friday, so we planned to do it on Tuesday. I knew that shooting on Tuesday and Wednesday would give me very few time to edit
the whole stuff. But at least I had to try.
Our assistent, Alessandro (Mary's boyfriend), helped us very much. I used 2 flashes, one more powerful in front of her and one as a fill light behind her. My triggers were broken so I asked Alessandro to push the button of the flash while the shutter was open. Using a pretty long shutter speed (1/3 sec.) we have been able to do it. The other flash was set to answer when it saw the light of the other one. All Mary's images were shot with Sigma 10-20 and the moon with a 55-200VR at 200mm. All of them where single images - I didn't duplicate any of them.
Late at night I made a fast edit of the image (well, using 13 images - 12 pictures of Mary and one of the moon, couldn't be so fast) in order to be able to print it to help me finding the correct positions of the camera and of the model the next morning. I woke up at 7 and we reached the place
(the same of my blue ribbon winner - Dawn of the Dead) at 8 when the sun was not too high to get good shots. This time I didn't use flashes but panels for the fill light. The sun had the same direction of the flash the night before, so flipping the image must create a good effect.

I spent several hours that night to edit the image. I tried to connect the two images as it was a calendar, but the impact was not as strong as with this 'water' connection. So the day after in the afternoon (it was on Thursday) I called Mr. Cat (a friend of mine - Edmondo - he's always in my best shots) and we went out to shoot the water area that was not in the original image. I shot from the water towards the sand. It was not the same place but a similar sandy beach near my house. I had very few time for editing because I started doing it at midnight (in Italy) - 6 hours before deadline and I finished after almost 4 hours. The whole editing took more or less 15-20 hours.

Grazie ragazzi.
Giusto per spiegare un attimo lo scatto: 30 secondi di esposizione (quelli necessari per la parte dello sfondo), poi sono partito con la luce al led di un cellulare camminando all'indietro sulla linea alla destra di chi guarda e puntando verso la camera il raggio, stessa cosa in avanti al centro e indietro a sinistra (coprendo il raggio nello spostamentoi laterale. Arrivato in fondo ho disegnato il fiore.

IO in questa foto non trovo rumore. Penso che i fattori siano due: l'aver scattato a 200mm. (hai un 55-200 f/4?) cosa che comunque con un obiettivo non di livello super crea già un calo della nitidezza e allo stesso l'avere una luce piuttosto forte che spesso ammazza un po' i dettagli. Comunque la non perfetta nitidezza nella parte bassaè data anche dall'aver scattato a 200mm. e f/8... la profondità di campo non può essere infinita. E' sicuramente questa la motivazione dato che al centro il fotogramma mi sembra piuttosto nitido.

Speravo meglio, 25esima, ma su 300 e comunque nell'ottica della competizione annuale andava bene, dato che sono sesto su diverse centinaia

Immaginavo che il taglio panoramico potesse in parte far storcere il naso ma l'ho scelto perché il cielo nella parte che ho croppato non era molto interessante e perché in questo modo ho ottenuto una migliore regola dei terzi (non che sia sempre fondamentale, ma credo qui fosse necessario).
Andrea dove vedi una mancanza di nitidezza? A me non sembra perdere molto nella compressione, almeno sul mio monitor. Comunque sì, l'originale non ha alcun problema.

Innanzitutto grazie. Quello che hai detto mi colpisce per un motivo: per questo scatto ho chiesto consiglio a un amico sudafricano, Rian. Io volevo chiamarlo Ghost of days gone by e lui mi ha suggerito come più adatto Sentil of days gone by... che giro strano, eh?

Concordo. In queste situazioni o uno sfocato molto molto evidente altrimenti tutto a fuoco è meglio.

Grazie ragazzi.
I vostri commenti sono sicuramente giusti. Devo dire a mia difesa che lo scatto era estremamente difficile proprio a livello fisico. Il light paiting infatti non illuminava solo la scia rossa ma anche le tazzine e muoversi a terra in maniera precisa è stato almeno per me difficilissimo. Camminare in ginocchio per 30 minuti per provare lo scatto migliore mi ha distrutto. Ero in un bagno di sudore e mi sono accontentato. Di solito provo anche per 2 ore uno scatto, ma stavolta non sono riuscito ad andare oltre. L'illuminazione è data da un faretto a LED per videocamera.

Devo dire che la foto è abbastanza d'effetto, ma allo stesso tempo un po' strana. La resa generale è interessante, ma le parti fuori fuoco dovute alla grande apertura dell'obiettivo per me disturbano un po'. Lo sfondo poi, pur essendo sicuramente suggestivo sembra posticcio. Non so se l'hai sostituito o se l'eccessiva compressione ha creato questo effetto concentrico posterizzato.
P.s. per curiosità: quant'era grande il crocefisso?

Immaginavo questo commento. I riflessi sono fatti così, a prima vista sembrano non coincidere quando hanno posizioni tanto inclinate. Per avere lo sguardo in camera ho puntato gli occhi verso la macchinetta attraverso lo specchio e questo è stato il risultato (dopo un flip di 180° ovviamente).
